Strongman Competition comes to The Hank

On Halloween day at Hank Aaron Stadium, area men and women will have a chance to display their strength during the inaugural Beast by the Bay Strongman Competition and Fitness Challenge, sponsored by the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, Jason's Gym and the Mobile BayBears.

The event will benefit The Mobile County Sheriff's Office as well as the Animal Rescue Foundation.

"The BayBears look forward to assisting the Mobile County Sheriff's Department on this fundraiser for the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF)," Mobile BayBears President/COO Bill Shanahan said. "In addition to the Strong Man Contest happening inside the stadium, there will be many free activities outside for kids and families with pets, hayrides, inflatables --- all to help raise much needed funds for this great program."

The competition will begin at 11 a.m.

There are division for teen, men's novice, men's masters, men's open, women and a public safety division for police and fire department employees. Entry fee is $50 for all divisions, except public safety which is $40 with valid identification. The men's division is separated into lightweight (up to 200 pounds), middleweight (200 to 230 pounds) and heavyweight (more than 230 pounds).

Events include, log press, farmer carry, tire drag, tire flip, yolk walk, casket carry and the quintessential event in any strongman competition --- Atlas stones.

The event is sanctioned by North American Strongman Incorporated. To enter as a contestant, participant must possess a current NAS membership card or join at the Strongman Competition on October 31. For more information on entrance fees or to register, visit www.jasonsfitness.com.
